About the Chickens
We got chickens for the eggs, just enough for huevos rancheros a few times a week! We get between 5-7 eggs a day from these girls. This page is just so you can get to know the chicken crew.
Big Bird
We named big bird because she kept standing up very tall in the brooder. She was also a cute shade of yellow. Now she looks quite distinguished with her beard and muffs grown in, does she not?
Goldie
Goldie is the fearless leader of the crew, clucking her way boldly throughout the chicken run, only fleeing in terror at the most formidable of bunny rabbits or particularly large moths.
Ms. Brown
Ms. Brown is a pretty mellow hen. She's definitely a follower. If she were a human, she would be that friend you would bring to the mall to help you shop for jeans, since she'd always have something nice to say.
Yin
This little bantie is very timid. We thought she was a silkie, but now we know she is a white sultan! She is a bit of a loner, and she enjoys sitting on her perch and thinking deep thoughts. She is very upset when she can't see her neighbor, Penny the rabbit, through the wire. She will cluck angrily until all is right again.
Yang (Bootsie)
This bantam is the friendliest chicken ever. She will walk, I mean waddle, right up to anyone. She's a sweet little cochin. Being the smallest, she gets picked on a bit, but she always gets dibs on yummy treats because she is so fearless.
The Oreo Sisters - Cookies and Cream
These two are going to grow up to be full sized chickens, like the easter eggers. Their eggs are brown and beautiful. They are Barred Rock chickens!
