Satin Angora Colors
While there are many rabbit color guides, I haven't yet seen one for Satin Angoras, so I'll be working on this as I gather pictures of these colors in different stages of life. It's definitely a construction zone in here. If you would like to send me pictures of a color I don't have as a newborn, furred kit, junior, or senior I will credit the photo to your rabbitry and link to your website :)
The Self Group
When black satin angora rabbits are born, you can tell right away what color they are (top kit on left picture). They are jet black on the day they are born. From one to four weeks, they grow shiny, fluffy black fur. As they grow older, their junior coat is very light and wooly, which is why they look almost grey. You can still tell they are black satin angora rabbits because the fur on their face stays shiny and black. As they age, 6+ months, they get a higher percentage of guard hairs and they look darker and darker.
Chocolate kits look chocolate from the start. If you look under their ears and tails and at their bellies, everything is solid chocolate. That's how you can tell a self chocolate from other kinds of chocolate. Junior chocolate rabbits get a lot of light, almost white wool, which I really love -- it doesn't look white when spun, though -- more like a latte! (Delicious)
