Satin Angora Rabbits
Satin Angoras are a very rare breed of domestic rabbit (The 6th rarest according to Rabbitgeek!)
We decided to get these rabbits because of the rarity of their wool. These rabbits were created as a cross between the French Angora and Satin rabbit. Therefore, they have the long angora wool with a satin sheen. Because of their French Angora heritage, they have more guard hairs and less coat maintenance than the popular English Angora. This also makes the wool easier to spin.
Angora wool is very soft and warm, and even a little bit of angora spun into wool can create a lovely shine and "halo" around the finished garment. It doesn't need to be washed or even carded before spinning.
At our Ranchito, we handle, groom and socialize each animal. From time to time, we will have fiber or show animals available for sale, so check out our sale page, or email us for more information.
Currently, my breeding program is focusing on three aspects, in order of importance - health, body, and color. I aim to produce rabbits with healthy immune systems, who will not go off feed and will have good mothering ability and healthy feet. Secondly, I aim to improve shoulders and hips in my herd. Third, I hope to select rabbits whose excellent color extends well down the hair shaft.
